　　1.句子比较长，同学们一看到这么长的句子可能就懵了。大家在读文章的时候要注意详略得当，有些部分可以跳读，比如一些已知目的的例子、重复的内容和进一步解释的内容。这个句子其实核心部分是破折号前面的部分，破折号后面是在举例子，虽然有很多生词，我们知道它们是一些火山喷发就足够了。

　　2.where在这里引导的是一个定语从句。where也可以引导地点状语从句。怎么区分呢?引导定语从句时where的先行词是一个地点名词。这里的Pacific ‘ring of fire’是一个地点名词，所以从句是一个定语从句。

　　3.not to mention的意思是“更不必说，不必提及”，前后为并列关系，多在肯定句中使用。与它意思相同的还有一个词组let alone，但let alone多用于否定句中，表示递进关系，如：She can't afford a hamburger，let alone a birthday cake.(她连一个汉堡都买不起，更不用说买个生日蛋糕了。)
