雅思大作文题目：

Competitiveness is considered to be an important quality for people in many societies. How do you think it affects individuals? Is it a positive or negative trend?

【话题分类】：抽象类

【题目解析】：

本篇文章要求考生讨论竞争力对于如何影响个人，并分析竞争力是积极还是消极的特点。

通常这种抽象类题目在进行分析时，可以采用具体分类的方式，比如题目中的individual，可以在文中分别从学生和工作者的角度来进行讨论，也可以将不同情况下竞争带来的好处和坏处进行分类，如良性的竞争能够让人进步且更好达成目标，而过度竞争或不良竞争则会让人自私狂妄，无法很好地融入新环境等。

虽然这个题目的提问方式是两个题目，相当于组合类题型，但可以直接按照利弊分析文章的结构来撰写。在分析竞争对人的利弊的同时，相应地回答第一个题目即竞争如何对个人产生影响的。

【写作思路】：

开头段：背景句+话题引出+亮明观点；

主体第一段：竞争力给人带来的优势和好处；

主体第二段：竞争力可能给人带来的弊端和破坏；

结尾段：重申个人观点 + 总结至少一个观点。

【参考范文】

Competitiveness serves as a double-edged sword for individuals in most societies. Some people argue that being competitive positively impacts people's lives, while others believe that competitiveness imposes negative results. This essay will consider both points of view before reaching my opinion.

To begin with, being competitive provides incentives for people to excel in what they do. By competing with others, one has to develop various skills and nurture perseverance until achieving final goals. This is particularly the case for athletes aiming at defeating rivals and winning the championship in national or international games. Furthermore, people with a competitive personality can expand their comfort zone. In other words, it is important to get conditioned to the frustration and uncertainty brought by competitions. Learning from failures helps them build up resilience and become more capable adults.

On the other hand, opponents argue that competitiveness can be destructive to individuals. First of all, an intense level of competition places too much unnecessary stress and anxiety. People may feel disappointed and defeated when failing to measure up or efforts are not recognized. These negative experiences may destroy their self-esteem and affect their mental health. In addition, competition may hinder individuals from adapting to a new environment. If people incessantly concentrate on competing instead of cooperating, they tend to be self-conceited and self-centred, establishing a poor rapport with the peer group.

In conclusion, competitiveness is beneficial to individuals in general despite a few downsides. Instead of being mediocre and unmotivated, it is better for people to be distinguished with exceptional abilities. A person should find a balance and avoid being over-competitive; otherwise, the consequences can be severe.
