　　Never has the topic concerning the pattern of education failed to arouse people’s attention. People hold divergent views about which one is more preferable, specialized education or comprehensive education. Someone argue thatthe specialists in different fields are what the current education system needs to foster. Yet, still others believe that it is necessary to implement the general education to enhance the all-round abilities of students. As I see it, it is of immense value for students to receive the comprehensive education.

　　No doubt, people who support the idea of specialized education do have reasons to some extent. For one thing, it is extremely efficient for the learners to acquire knowledge when applying themselves to only one subject. For another, it exerts a beneficial impact on the future job-hunting, for the specialists can definitely meet the demand of some enterprises such as the training of athletes, cooks and other professionals.

　　I have to admit that there is an element of truth in the argument above. However, on no account could we ignore the profound influence of the general education. First, traveling in the ocean of divergent subjects could help enlarge ones’ knowledge scope and broaden one’s mental horizons. Hence, it can deepen one’s insight into life and foster one’s rational thinking, analytical thinking and critical thinking. Still, by means of all-round learning, it can add spice and enrichment to students’ dull routine of daily life. It is conceivable that one can cultivate various hobbies and talents as a generalist. Last of all, knowledge is no burden. Acquiring a wide range of subjects could enable one to realize overall development and thus better prepare him or her for the future career challenges. Maybe it fails to enhance ones’ competitiveness after graduation, but the moral education and character-training it covers could be beneficial to ones’ growth in the long run.
